Types of Auto Coverage: Liability -
This coverage pays for accidental bodily injury and property damages to others.
Injury damages include medical expenses, pain and suffering and lost wages. Property damage includes damaged property
and automobiles. This coverage also pays defense and court costs. State laws determine how much liability coverage you
must purchase, but you can always get more coverage than your state requires. Liability insurance pays to repair or
replace the other driver’s car and pays other people’s medical expenses. Liability insurance does not pay to repair
or replace your car or for your injuries. You must have at least the minimum amount of liability coverage required by
the state’s financial responsibility law.
Collision Coverage is addition to liability car insurance, if you are making payments to own or lease your
car, you must also have collision and comprehensive coverage.
In case you have an accident with an uninsured driver or the
other driver hits and run, you get nothing for the damage of
your car or for the cost of treatment for your injuries. It
is wise to have a collision cover and comprehensive cover
this. You also have the opportunity to get insurance
for the underinsured as well as uninsured drivers.
Comprehensive -
This coverage pays for loss or damage to the
your insured vehicle that doesn't occur in an auto accident.
The types of damages comprehensive insurance covers include
loss caused by fire, wind, hail, flood, vandalism or theft.
Medical Coverage
- Pays medical expenses regardless
of fault when the expenses are caused by an auto accident.
Uninsured Motorist - Pays your car's damages when an auto
accident is caused by a driver who doesn't have liability
insurance.
Underinsured Motorist
- Pays your car's damages when an
auto accident is caused by someone who has insufficient
liability insurance.
Rental Reimbursement - This type of coverage
will pay for a rental car if your car is damaged due to an
auto accident. Often this coverage has a daily allowance for
a rental car.
Personal Injury Protection - PIP: An automobile
insurance coverage. The insurers provide or offer to provide
first party benefits for medical expenses, loss of income,
funeral expenses and similar expenses without regard to
fault .
Texas law has severe penalties for violating the state's financial responsibility laws. Not having minimum liability insurance, a first
conviction will result in a fine between $175 and $350.
Subsequent convictions could result in fines of $350 to
$1,000, suspension of your driver's license and impound of
your vehicle. Texas uses a real time insurance verification
system called Texas Sure,
which allows law enforcement officers to instantly verify whether a vehicle has auto liability coverage required by
state law. In short, state officials say if you're not covered, you'll be discovered
